What Do I Expect from LASIK?
Before the surgery, your corneas will be examined using of our high tech scanners. This will enable us to create a map of your cornea, which will show us if you have an astigmatism or other irregularities of the eye and also lets our surgeon calculate how the surgery will be preformed. On the day of your surgery, you will be given a mild sedative to help you relax, and a anesthetic will be applied to your eyes. During the first phase of the LASIK procedure, a flap will be made in the outer cornea either manually using a computer controlled blade or using a laser in a procedure known as IntraLASIK. This flap will then be folded back to reveal the cornea.
In the second phase of the procedure, a computer controlled laser will reshape the cornea by removing tissue in the eye. The computer can track the position of your eye up to 4,000 times a second, guaranteeing accuracy and precision. Once the reshaping is complete, the flap will be moved back into its original position, where it will heal naturally. The procedure generally lasts for only a few minutes and is virtually painless. You can usually return to your normal routine the next day.
